Charlesburg Marburry is the product of a horrendous and traumatizing experience, inficted upon Ellysia Marburry at the hands of a marauding horde of orcs. Elyssia Marburry was a peasant farmhand who labored honestly and diligently on a **** farm on the outskirts of Silverymoon. When she was with child she vowed to herself, and despite the wishes and advice of the midwives in the land, to keep the child and not turn it out to fend for itself. Although she became something of a pariah due to her maternal instincts, she nevertheless was able to raise the male child in relative peace while continuing to labor on her master’s farm.
As Charlesburg grew older, it became apparent that he possessed an affinity for magic. Elyssia had a hunch that her son’s proclivities were due to the rumored occupation of her great grandfather, Charlsebeard Contankary Marburry, and she was supportive of her child’s skills. As the young half orc-half human grew older and more reckless with his in-born skills Ellysia and her farm-mates became more and more concerned. When young Charlesburg burned down an apple tree simply by attempting to ignite some tinder, Ellysia decided it was time to send him off to learn to harness his power.
After weeks of begging her master for a year’s advance on her wages, and after years of scrimping and saving, Ellysia was able to secure enough tuition for Charlesburg at a third-tier academy of the arts for young males. For the most part, the instructors cared little for Charlesburg’s education, although they tolerated his presence and imparted upon him all the proper mores, manners, and composure a young man needed in order to negotiate the life of a cosmopolitan arcanist.
After a few years at the academy, Charlesburg realized that his mother was unable to continue to afford his tuition. That, and the constant shunning, taunting, and ridicule he faced from town and gown alike compelled him to set out from Silverymoon in order to make a life of his own, and thus unburdening his mother. Charlesburg traveled alone, facing few dangers, and even fewer hospitality. Most fellow travelers ran on sight, while a few actually hurled insults, mud, rocks, and other, more dangerous object toward him. Upon reaching Daggerdale, and striding through the gates of Daggerfalls, Charlesburg rested near the falls, sighing and reflecting upon his lot in life. The bubbling of the waters reminded him of the many fountains in Silverymoon, and he longed for the peace and tranquility he remembered, but which he new was only available to him if he struggled mightily to earn his way. He lifted himself off the bench, straightened his robe, checked his well manicured fingernails, and strode confidently toward the inn…………..
