Selindar Kelin, greater ranger and scout, in the service of the Wayrest outpost, was one of the highest decorated officers in Wayrest.
While the founding of this outpost was being planned, Selindar was approached by his superiors and asked to be the lead scout in this mission.
Upon acceptance he was awarded with his choice of 3 magic items.
His first choice was an ancient longbow of the elves, roughly translated into the human tongue as "Slayer of Enemies". It is a minor intelligent weapon that grants keen accuracy vs. the favoured enemies of the ranger. It also grants fire damage vs. the favoured enemies. Should the ranger adopt more enemies the intelligence of the bow will also gain these enemies. Against any other foe, the bow is a thrice enchanted elven longbow.
His second and third choice were the "Twin longswords of the Forest". These swords were crafted long ago by the elven clerics of Evermeet. They were crafted for the greater rangers of the army during the times of war. They were crafted to have superior striking abilities against all evil foes, further enhanced with divine energy vs. evil foes. Against any other enemy they are thrice enchanted longswords.
During his station in Wayrest, Selindar met an elven female named Katarina, and soon married her. A few years later she granted him a first born son, that they named Neluril. They lived happily for many years in Wayrest, building a home in the forest around Wayrest, and soon settling there, and retiring from his position. Selindar then began to train his son Neluril in the ways of the Ranger, teaching him the arts of nature and the ways of the scout. Neluril's final test was to take on a hunting trip on his own. While he was gone his home was attacked by a stray raiding party heading to Wayrest.
His mother upon arrival was already dead, but his father still had a glimpse of life left in him, Selindar told his son about the weapons, Neluril knew all to well of what his father was speaking of, and vowed he would find these weapons. Promising his father he would take on a Life Quest, the highest promise an elf could make, to find these weapons of importance to the Kelin family.
